  3.     In the story on state-sponsored lotteries (NATION, July
  4. 10), we mentioned a popular form of lottery in which a bettor
  5. picks six out of 54 numbers. We said the odds of getting the
  6. right six are 1 in 12.9 million. Several readers have pointed
  7. out that the odds of picking the winners are 1 in 25.8 million.
  8. We failed to make clear that for the kind of lottery we had in
  9. mind, a $1 ticket gives the bettor two chances to pick the lucky
  10. six numbers; in this case the odds of winning on a $1, two-game
  11. ticket are 1 in 12.9 million.
